04/21/04: On the move...
A lot is being learned about what it means to be a "church" in postmodern times. The Message isn't changing, just how we communicate and practice its elements. It seems that a great many people have not turned their back on the Christian message as a whole, but instead, they have not connected well with the "church" as defined by modern framework. If we can show the world the "church" through a fresh perspective, there seem to be many who are interested to discover more.
03/09/04: Hey, Who's Supposed to Update This Thing?
Wow, it's been a while since we updated the site. Many things have been
happening and its been hard to find time for much of anything. We have been studying
the early first century church and looking for what we can use of that as a model
for today. Its been exciting because we see that God has been moving us in that
direction with the little things that happen on a regular basis that do not seem
to be a big deal until we step back and take a look at the larger picture. We're
being stretched beyond our ideas of what "church" means compared to
our previous experiences, but being drawn into an understanding that has a solid
base in the Bible. A focus has recently been placed on understanding the spiritual
gifts that God has placed in this group and how to enable everyone to be involved
in the growing ministry of the church in their area of giftedness. Another group
is going through the "Steps to Freedom in Christ" by Neal Anderson & Timothy
Warner. It is an exciting time and we are anxiously seeking God as He is guiding
our steps.
In addition, we've had the amazing opportunity to move our Friday night
game center to a seven-day-a-week operation. We acquired a local retail
game store, Glass City Games, which is quite well established in this
area with a history of 9 years. Our focus with the store has been to
make it a place to build community, getting to know each other and reach
out to those around us. We're excited about this opportunity to expand
our circle of relationship beyond our house groups.
The skate park project has been placed on hold temporarily. We had to
take time off of the project while we regrouped and dealt with the game
store acquisition. We're seeking God's direction on the skate park and
believe that He will open the doors of opportunity when the timing is
right, just as we experienced with the store. In the meantime, we continue
to focus on sharing our vision with people, building house groups, and
doing our best to show Christ's love to those around us. Keep us in your
prayers, we can always use more of that!
10/01/03: New Game Center facility
We just moved our game center facility to
the first floor of our building and we are excited
about the extra exposure that provides to those walking
by the building, the way the place looks more inviting,
and the overall change in the atmosphere of the place.
Come on by and check it out on Friday evenings from
7pm until midnight or join us for our massive LAN party
being planned for Saturday, October 11th (see our game
center website for more details)
09/30/03: Skatepark Update
We just received word that the Lucas County Commissioners
have voted on the issue of granting us land at the Lucas
County Rec center for our skatepark facilities and
have approved it. We also talked with the bank today
and they are waiting for us to make a few changes
to our business plan and then they'll get the rest of
our loan paperwork moving. After almost a year of
hard work, planning, and a ton of prayer, it looks like
we are on the verge of moving forward with this development!
07/29/03: Updates Coming Soon...
We have had a very busy summer and I apologize for the lack of updates. We will be sending out an updated letter
shortly and will post many of the items on here as well. There are some very exciting things happening
and I can't wait to see where things are headed! -- Brian
05/20/03: Donations!
Paradox is looking for donations to assist in the development of ministries.
We are asking for donations in all forms - cash, services, products, etc. If
you have a product or service that you would be willing to donate to support
the ministry of Paradox, we have an auction coming up in November where we
can sell the items and put the proceeds into good use. The
auction is being sponsored and hosted by New Hope Christian Community Foundation
(www.nhccf.com).
These items count as charitable donations for tax write-off purposes. For more
information regarding donations, email debbie@pdox.org.
05/05/03: 2nd Annual Paradox Skatepark Picnic
Where did this last year go? It's time again for the
annual Paradox Skatepark Picnic. It will be held
at Parmalee Park in Lambertville, MI again on Sunday,
May 25th. We'll be eating at 5:30pm, but we'll start
showing up there anytime after 4pm. We had a great
turnout and a great time last year and we are looking
forward towards the same again. For additional information,
or if you would like to help, please contact Christy
Krabach at christy@krabach.com.
